Do You Have a Childhood?

This post is the promised Adventures in Odyssey post! I am very excited about this one as I have a distinct love for Odyssey. It’s very nostalgic for me and the majority of my friends, so I know all of them will love this post!๐Ÿ˜‰

I know my title is probably very confusing to most of you. I’ll explain: One year at ADMIT (a minister’s conference), Bro Burgess mentioned Odyssey in his message. He said, “If you’ve never listened to Odyssey, you don’t have a childhood!” That cracked us all up, because we know the truth of that statement! (And none of us were offended, because we all love Odyssey!๐Ÿ˜‚) Although I know others that listen to it, Odyssey is very much an Apostolic thing. I know endless people, who are not kids anymore, but still fall asleep to Whit and the gang. It’s normal for us.๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚

We’ve all memorized the addresses they have at one point or another, as well.๐Ÿ˜† Chris actually annoys me, so I end the Odyssey before I have to listen to her part.๐Ÿ™ˆย But, when I was little, that wasn’t an optionโ€“ You couldn’t fast-forward the radio! So I had both of their addresses memorized beyond my will.๐Ÿ˜‚ย Good times, good times.๐Ÿ˜‚

I am going to choose this time to insert my opinion that the old really is better in this case.โ€“ The new Odysseys just aren’t as good as the oldies! The Barclay’s, Lawrence, Mr. Holstein, Mulligan’s, Washington’s, Rathbone’s, Shepherd’s, Bernard, Jared, Mandy, Lucy, Jack Allen, and more, are all ones you never hear from nowadays. But they are the backbone of all things Odyssey! I really wish we could hear more from them. Also, the messages they teach now aren’t as real, down-to-earth, and just plain Biblical anymore. They tend to be very charismatic and wishy-washy compared to the classicsโ€“ Not as much Bible, and a whole lot of feel-good messages.๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธย Don’t get me wrongโ€“ I love the modern Odysseys! Just not as much as the oldies. (Further proving that I am indeed an old soul…๐Ÿ˜‚)

Then there’s the Odyssey villains.โ€“ Don’t even get Odyssey fans started on the villains! We are very passionate about our opinions of them.๐Ÿ˜‚ย Dr. Blackgaard, Mr. Charles, Phillip Glossman, Arther Dent, etc.โ€“ We all still have strong feelings of dislike that we are trying to get over!๐Ÿ˜‚

Now I am going to end this by listing my favorites. Comment yours below!๐Ÿ˜ƒ

  1. This is sooo accurate! Has anyone else noticed that Christian music is the same way? It’s more rocky and “look at me”. I think my favorite Adventures in Odyssey is A Case of the secret room, but it is so hard to choose.

  2. I have not, but I will definitely check her out. I am currently reading a book by Anne Perry. She is also another really good author.
