Wardrobe Capsuling & How I Do It

This was my first official fall outfit this year! Fun tip: you can tuck a tunic into a high-waisted skirt easier than a regular shirt, like I’ve done here!

I am not sure if any of y’all have heard of it, but I do a thing called wardrobe capsuling. My closet is separated by season, each with a different color scheme. The goal is to make your closet more minimalistic. Some people have very few items in their capsules, and others (like me) have quite a bit. It all depends on what works best for you, your personality, and your closet.

I keep my neutrals accessible for all seasons, because they match everything. So, for me spring is blush, dusty blue, olive, and my neutrals. Summer is cobalt, fire orange, hot pink, and neutrals. Fall is burnt orange, maroon, red, teal, neutrals, and maybe more. Winter is blush, mauve, evergreen, and neutrals. (By the way, my winter, summer, and spring capsules are based off of pairs of shoes I have. The color combos kind of sound funky, but they aren’t- I promise! The shoes tie everything together.) I don’t strictly limit myself to just these items- if I am not feeling it, I don’t wear it! Also, I don’t include my church clothes in this, but you totally can!

This may seem difficult or overwhelming (That is how I felt at first!) but once you get the hang of it, it will change how you dress! It makes getting dressed so much easier, and I get a lot more use out of my clothes. For example, I packed my summer capsule for Chicago. It made packing so much easier! Plus, I am much more creative with my outfits than before- rearranging and color scheming gave me a different perspective of my closet. You also are able to shop with more purpose, because you only buy pieces that belong in your capsules.

I have been doing this since spring, and I have finally figured out what I am doing! Haha, I really love doing this, but I’m quirky, sooo…🤷🏼‍♀️ If any of you try this, let me know! I would love to hear how you do it!

  1. I love capsule wardrobes! That’s what I’ve done, and it’s saved me so much money! I used to buy so many clothes and hardly ever wear them. Plus it saves so much time. And yes – neutrals! They’re the best.

  2. Doing my closet this way has certainly changed how I think about clothes! I feel like I have way more options than before if I am mix and matching within a color scheme. Thanks for reading!😉
