Timber

I would definitely call myself a dog person. I love puppies of any shape, size, or color. Big-ish dogs with soft fur, floppy ears, and expressionate eyes are my favorite though.๐Ÿ˜‰ We have an English Shepherd named Timber, who is just over a year old. Because they are uncommon, most people don’t know what an English Shepherd is. So when peopleย do know what we are talking about when we say we have an English Shepherd, it makes us like that person just a little bit more.๐Ÿ˜œ

This was right after we got him.

Timber is about 60 pounds, which is on the large end of the scale of what the typical male English Shepherd weighs. 35-50 pounds is the average female weight, and 45-60 pounds is the average male weight. He is black and white with some dark sable (Sable is like a golden color, so dark sable is kind of a chocolate color.) mixed in. You may have noticed his name is a lumberjack’s call for when a tree is falling after being cut down. When we were coming up with a name for him, I thought it would be funny if, when we called him, we could yell, “Tiiimberrrrr!”, just like the lumberjacks did. And that’s what we did! ๐Ÿ˜„

In this one, we are teaching him to sit.

He is an outdoor dog, but he gets let inside a lot for some indoor snuggles and pets.๐Ÿ˜Š We have about 10 acres and a large fenced-in area, so he is pretty happy outside. In fact, when it gets too cold we put him in the garage at night, and he hates it.ย  He would much rather be outside, protecting us from the vicious birds, moles, coyotes, and next-door cows, lol.๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜‚

This is him in his herding position.

He loves rope toys, Saltine crackers, cat food, ice chips, coffee, and whatever else we are currently eating or cooking. He isn’t really a fan of orange or potato peels though. He also loves to have his rump scratched. Every time one of us tries to pet his head, he turns around and puts his rear in our hands. He is spoiled rotten.๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜

He jumps on our sliding doors to get our attention, which is why they are dirty. ๐Ÿ™„

We jokingly say that his full name is Timber Yous-a-good-boy Merriman, because that is what we call him basically all the time. And, yes, we say it in baby talk. What would be the fun in talking to your dog in a normal voice?๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜‚ But, he really is such a good dog! He knows basic commands, and he follows the house rules surprisingly well (well, most of the time, lol). We are fixing to get another English Shepherd puppy, a female this time, so expect a post about her pretty soon.๐Ÿ˜„

This was taken when he wasn’t quite full grown.
