Beyond the Common Perception

Valentine’s Day is widely known as a day of celebrating the love you have for your significant other. Thousands upon thousands of dollars are spent every year on cards, flowers, chocolates, etc. to be given to the person they love. Yet, thousands upon thousands of people are depressingly aware of their singleness more than any other day of the year. They are so blinded by the fact that they don’t have any current romantic relationships, that they forget about the most important people in their life. Yes, Valentine’s Day is a day to show that special someone in your life how much you love them. But no, it is not limited to just that! It is a day to express your love to those you care about, not just to your boyfriend/girlfriend or spouse. We all need to re-evaluate our view of this misconceived holiday and think about those in our life that we love. To do this, I am going to list those that I love and make my life meaningful.

  • God

This may seem like a no-brainer, but many out there wouldn’t even think to put Him on their list. It is sad to think that most people forget about the One who IS love. The One who died for us, the One who took on flesh for our sakes. I believe He deserves the most attention on the day dedicated to expressing love.

  • Family

I am so incredibly thankful for my family! I am blessed to have parents who love each other and put God first in their relationship. I am blessed to have a sister who happens to be my very best friend. I am blessed to have the siblings that I do. I am so glad that my relationship with my family goes beyond DNA. Most of all, I am thankful that, even if mistakes have been made, we don’t have to question each others love.img_6911

  • Ministry

There are many ministers and their wives that have influenced my life, but Bishop and Sis. Riggen have been some of the most impactful. They have been a big part of my childhood, and I am so blessed to have been able to listen to Bishop’s teachings as often as I have.

  • Friends

I have some of the most amazing friends in my life! The youth group from Elder Howard’s church are some of the friends that I am closest to. They have always made me feel so welcome and loved! Many of my most treasured memories involve being with that group. I feel challenged in my relationship with God and as a person when I am around them. If any of y’all happen to read this, I want to say that I love you guys so much! Also, Bro. Jared Hilton, who is my uncle/brother/friend/whatever you want to call him, lol:) I have known him since I was four, and I have always looked up to him and loved him like family. And thanks to all the friends I have that aren’t listed! My post would be way too long if I named every single one of you, but know that I appreciate and love you!
